The August Wilson Center for African American Culture engages regional and national audiences in its mission of preserving, presenting, interpreting, celebrating and shaping the art, culture and history of African Americans in Western Pennsylvania and people of African descent throughout the world.

For the 2009-2010 school year, Urban Youth Action, Inc. (UYA), is partnering with Supplemental Educational Services of the School District of Pittsburgh to provide FREE after-school tutoring to students of the following City of Pittsburgh Schools:

  • Any student who attends Arsenal, Faison, Lincoln, Langley, Peabody, Miller, Schaeffer, Allegheny, Rooney, Oliver or Westinghouse

  • Students who receive free or reduced lunch at Allderdice, Carrick, Brashear, Perry or Schenley

 

Tutoring services are available Monday - Friday, 3-6 PM in UYA's office, 333 Forbes Avenue, Warner Center, Downtown Pittsburgh.  The program requires tutoring of a minimum of 6 hours weekly.  UYA staff will work with each student to create a schedule that meets their individual needs.  Bus tickets for Port Authority Transit will be provided, as well as snacks for all participants for the sessions they attend.  In addition to increasing academic performance, participants will receive a gift certificate upon successful completion of the program, and may be eligible to participate in UYA's core programming year-round.
