The Mystery
Zora called to me in a dream last night.
She said, “Sister, come sit by me and I’ll tell you a tale I heard from my mother’s mother, who learned it from her mother’s mother, who taught it to other women, who spread it around the world. It was mystery that only women know how to decipher, yet it was bequeathed to humanity. Men scoffed at the eloquence, the elegance of it, the simplicity.
Because of their scorn the mystery withdrew itself until the time arrived for one to bring it back to the world. She alone kept the mystery in her heart. Knowing this was the secret of the ages, she decided it was just too heavy a burden to carry alone. So she cloaked herself in invisibility and traveled around the world, whispering the secret to women whose hearts had been searching for a brighter purpose. And so, to those whose spirits shown with an inner light she sang her song only they could hear. Upon awakening, as though from a deep dream, each of the ‘chosen’ ones cried with joy for their prayers had been answered. Now, these women spread the word far and wide, for the time had come for the mystery to be revealed. What was the secret, the mystery so elegant and so simple that even a girl-child could understand?
If you don’t know, then you are not one of the ‘chosen’ ones and I am going to keep it to myself.
